Monday – March 22nd, Rowena Williamson came into KWPA’s studio to introduce Whidbey Chat’s listeners to our Whidbey Writer’s Group series. A long time island resident and writer Rowena shared who the Whidbey Writers Group is made up of, how being part of the group supports the writers, where she finds inspiration for her work, how she gets her writing done and then read from one of her short stories!!! The story can be found in the Whidbey Writers Group short story book titled “Whispers in the Mist: Tales of Mystery and Suspense”, published in 2004, Gull Rock Publishing. Thank you Rowena for kicking off the “Whidbey Chat” Writers series.

Rowena and Oona Happy Beach Goers

Rowena Williamson is a bibliomaniac. She lives on Whidbey Island with a Scottish Deerhound, named Taz, and an old cat.  Her other Deerhound (pictured above), Oona, died in Dec 09 and is deeply missed.  Oona’s ashes are buried under the mountain ash tree with the other deerhounds- from her pack.  Rowena reads a lot, writes a lot and spends a lot of time helping to support and promote the written word through the Northwest Institute of Literary Arts, The Whidbey Island Writers Association and the Whidbey Writers Group.  She is presently working on a the rewrite of two novels about the Battle of Culloden.  She likes cooking, walking, movies, sharing time with friends, community members and other writers.  She does an ample amount of world travel, but loves to come home.  She is always looking for her next destination- and the next book to read.  Visit her book review site on the links to the left.

Next writer in the Whidbey Chat Writers series is Sandra Ortgies at 11:30 am on Monday March 29th on KWPA 96.9 – (streaming the station from your computer proves better reception). Thanks folks!
